Sermon: “Jesus Is Calling: Is Anybody Listening?”
We live in a culture that is fast paced and incredibly noisy, over stimulated. The issue for us is not that God has gone silent, but that we know longer know how to listen. Jesus comes to us in the midst of the everyday and the routine. Are we in tune with where God is that everyday and routine enough to even hear what God may be saying to us. Jesus is calling but is anybody listening?
Sunday, January 29:
Scripture: Mark 1:21-28
Sermon: “This Is A Dangerous Man”
Jesus speaks and acts with the authority of God. Such authority had power and dominion over God’s creation. Whatever is in opposition to the purpose of God’s creation now is exposed and overcome by this new authority that Jesus brings as the author and creator of God’s new covenant and new Kingdom. Such authority is both dangerous to those who are called by God to use it as well as those who happen to be on the receiving end of its expression. With such authority Jesus is a dangerous man.

Sermon: “Living In God's Purpose!”
Paul uses the powerful imagery of running a race or boxing to share the purpose that drives the running and the boxing which is to win. Everything is defined by the purpose. Paul now turns to talk about living a disciplined life rooted in the purpose of God for our lives. Living on purpose is the only way to live!
Sunday, February 19:
Scripture: Mark 9:2-9
Sermon: “Listening to Jesus”
The transfiguration of Jesus confirms who is he and the reality that God is at work in what he is doing. And in this experience the disciples who were with him get confirmation from God that they need to listen to what Jesus is saying. What a statement! It begs the question, are we listening to what Jesus is saying? Do we even know what he is saying? How can we follow something we don’t even know? Maybe it is time we took God up on God’s good advice to listen to him!
Sunday, February 26: First Sunday in Lent following Ash Wednesday
Scripture: Isaiah: 43:1-7
Sermon: “God Knows You By Name”
Jesus is baptized in the Jordan at the hands of John the Baptist. God appears and confirms Jesus’ identity. What a moment that must have been. Then immediately following such a moment God’ spirit sends him out into the wilderness to be tempted. Maybe the message here is if our spiritual highs with God don’t lead us to do something significant with it what is the point of the experience? Where is God leading you today?
